For many years, Reiki symbols were held in extreme secrecy. Some of the earlier masters, in fact, would not even allow the students to take the drawings of the symbols home with them. This was unnecessary. The symbols are sacred, not secret. Think of a symbol as blueprints or diagrams for directing the energy. As you move your hand, using the symbols as diagrams, energy follows your hands in the symbols’ designs. your hands are like magnets, drawing the energy in their wake as you move them. Or, to put it another way, as the old saying, “Where the attention goes, the energy flows”. There are four Reiki symbols.
This is the symbol that most manuals describe as “The Power Symbol.” It is a powerful symbol. Use the symbol for healing, but it is also useful for charging objects with healing energy. it is understandable that the ChoKuRei also has protective qualities. Unless there is some Divine purpose that must prevail–which is rare–the person or object will be protected by virtue of being aligned with the Divine.
Sei Hei Ki
This is one of the Reiki Symbols that is most often referred to as “the mental emotional” symbol. When seen with “second sight,” this symbol seems to raise a sort of bluewhite light that infuses the body and especially the aura. The aura is particularly sensitive to thoughts and emotions: what you think almost spontaneously fills the aura, for good or ill. Most illnesses begin here, then, with thoughts or emotions, altering the blueprint of the physical body, until the unhealthy condition manifests in the physical body.Healing the symptoms only might provide temporary relief.
Often called “the Distance Symbol,” that pulls aside the veil of illusion and reveals the Universal Truth: time and distance do not actually exist. Use this symbol if you want to heal people at an apparent distance, or when there might be a time factor. If you know someone’s illness began with an incident in childhood, for instance, you can use this symbol to work on that incident, bringing the healing all the way to the present. If a surgery or dental appointment is looming, you can “send” healing to the day and place of the event. “Sending” is not the best of words to use for this process, but it’s the one most of us understand the best.
